Very Much Looking Forwards

An exciting new departure - A Yoga retreat in The Highlands of Scotland.

Who knows why I've left it so long, to combine a love of sharing good yoga, with an equal affection for travel, meeting new people, and hill walking ?

But on the 2nd 3rd and 4th of June this year, I will be co-hosting a weekend of  Yoga, with my fellow Iyengar yoga teacher Bob Phillips.

At a superb location in lovely Perthshire, in The Southern Highlands of Scotland.

Here on the banks of Loch Tay ...

I'd like to be able to guarantee weather this fair.  But at least in June, the evenings will be long enough for an easy saunter down to the Loch.   Or there may even be time for a quick scamper up a local hill, after your home cooked dinner.

We are holding this event in a wonderful purpose built venue, situated on an organic farm community.

The yoga room is fully equipped, with all the usual props you would expect in an Iyengar Yoga studio

The locals are very welcoming, and we are hoping that at least some of our food will be sourced directly from the farm.

We will be located here:-

We will be presenting a full, and in-depth programme of asana and pranayama: suitable for anyone with at least a years experience of yoga practice.

Both of your teachers have trained for five years within the Iyengar Yoga Teacher training programme; and are qualified to Junior Intermediate Level Three.

Between us; we have well over 40 yrs of regular teaching practice.

We aim to provide plenty of challenging stuff, for everyone, and to leave you feeling both rejuvenated. and refreshed.

But don't be afraid that you might be out of your depth.

There's always an alternative way of practising each posture. even if attempting the full pose isn't yet within your abilities.
And all classes will be sequenced progressively, so there's every chance you may end up exceeding your own expectations.

After all, every yoga practitioner, of whatever level, is always working towards refining. and deepening their understanding of yogasana.

A whole weekend of practice, and learning will give a chance to explore new possibilities, and look at fresh approaches to ways of working.

Still plenty of room for improvement...

The facilities will be far better equipped for yoga than this: but who knows?
If the weather plays nicely allows we could do some practice outside.

In addition to all the fabulous yoga, this weekend promises to be a friendly and sociable opportunity, to relax and unwind in this stunning location.

Level camping, with all facilities is available right next to the yoga venue.

Plus there are ample B&B's and other accommodation, bookable in the area, for those not so keen on the outdoors life.

OK, I confess; this isn't actually Scotland. But there's really no reason why we shouldn't have a chance of sunshine as lovely as this, at least some of the time.

Further details of this splendid opportunity  :-

The weekend will start an introductory class on Friday evening, at 6pm followed by welcome dinner.

All food will be provided, up to and including Sunday lunch time, with refreshments available at all times.

Cost for the whole weekend, including food and camping facilities :-  £250.

A range of B&B options are suggested on the Big Shed website.

The Big Shed, Tombreck, is approx one and a half hours drive from Glasgow.

The nearest train station is Crianlarich.

We are hoping that some yogis will be  able to come to this area a few days early, or stay on afterwards, in order that they might spend more time exploring this beautiful area.

The Loch Lomand and The Trossachs National Park are a very short car ride away.

And, as an extra bit of fun, we are planning to offer an optional Saturday evening session.

We will be looking at yoga poses, and adjustments, that could be done easily in a small tent, using props that you would already have to hand.

Both your teachers spend a considerable amount of their leisure time out and about in the hills, when time allows,

So I've been working on a programme of various moves that might be done at the end of a days hike, or cycle, or possibly even for a few minutes at a lunch stop - whatever it takes really, to keep us moving and exploring in comfort...
